Oregano Caribbean Cuisine

Oregano is absolutely incredible; from their unforgettable dishes, wonderful service, to their totally unique ambiance. This gem is in Versalles neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, and when you walk inside you are transported to the Caribbean immediately, the interior is filled with artwork and totally unique murals that encapsulate the whole vibe, the smell of spices mingling with all the meats and seafoods is like a big warm hug. Time after time, it always feels wonderful coming into Oregano (can you tell we love this place?!) the restaurant is smaller with all indoor seating, and has a front section with 5 tables and a back area with a full bar and another 3 tables, each has it’s own vibe.

Service here is on a level of it’s own, with friendliness, full understanding of the menu, and a joy when presenting all the wonderful foods they serve here. Starting off with the drinks they have a fantastic bar, and we’ve tried several mixed drinks, they are always delicious and well priced. The wine menu has excellent options and they don’t judge if you want to add a little ice in them (hey, it is hot out here!). They also offer bottled craft beer as well as the local favorites served nice a chilled.

The menu is concise, one page of apps, and one of entrees and thankfully they do smaller sizing of some of the favorite entrees as apps so you have an opportunity to try more items! There are curries, pastas, braised meats, tacos, Caribbean baskets, mussels all available every night. Here are some of the items we have tried sarting with my all time favorite braised ox tail (you will want to get your hands messy for this one, the most tender meat on the bone served in a juice of braising liquid that is spiced to perfection, and is a dish you will dream about), Caribbean wings ( a totally different array of spices simmered with wings, a little spicy in a good way, that is braised and so so delicious), Caribbean curry (a creamy blend of yet another set of spices, deep and rich served with tender veggies, and protein of your choice, all are fantastic), tostones (great as a snack for the table, get the aioli with them, yummy!), fresh corn tortilla tacos (not your typical tacos, the meats are slow cooked and decadent), the potato wedges (how are these even the best crispy crunchy and tasty potato wedges ever?!) the desserts we’ve had have also been very balanced and a great end to the meals.

In addition to all this, this may sound crazy but it’s absolutely true, if you call into request it they will bring in one of their pet mini pigs that they have! They are super funny little guys, running around looking for a missed crumb (not allowed to feed them!) and very cute!

They have a WhatsApp that they appreciate very much if you make reservations for dinner, even if it’s the afternoon of. They definitely can fill up quickly, and they have some sort of a special happy hour each day that’s fun to check out. Oregano is at the top top top of our best restaurant list here in Puerto Vallarta!
