Itamar

Itamar is tucked back in the Romantic district area closer back to the local neighborhood of Buenos Aires, you come here for fresh seafood, cooked with no frills, just great food!

We stumbled upon this restaurant when we first moved to PV, and hadn’t heard of much of anything yet, all we knew was we wanted fresh local fish, and as luck would have it, that is exactly what they serve there. Itamar can be recognized by their cobalt blue and white colors that stand out in the neighborhood, it’s open and fun to people watch, the entire inside is open to the front area. When we’ve been it’s mostly been locals, they have a full bar, and when we’ve gone we’ve mostly gotten beer and wine.

Out of all the places we’ve been this has been our favorite “fish of the day” which was mahi mahi, so good we actually ordered an entire second plate!!! It’s lightly seared with garlic and butter, and just melts in your mouth. Served with charred al dente delicious veggies (way better than the standard side veg usually offered out here), and decadent mashed potatoes (really creamy and again better than other mashed potatoes we’ve had out here). We’ve also tried their grilled octopus taco, it came served as a nice large portion, seared to perfection, with a lovely pesto, and a fresh carrot and cabbage slaw on a pillowy homemade flour tortilla, we loved it!! We also got to try their stewed marlin empanadas which are different everywhere out here, these are fresh blue corn masa (large!) stuffed with stewed marlin (this one is great and not sweet!) then deep fried and served crispy on the outside and hot and steamy on the inside. We were already full and still ate every single bite!

Service was super friendly and the staff were all inviting, and happy to answer questions about the menu, beers were nice and cold. Itamar offers other items on the menu besides seafood, and we noticed others enjoying those options, but if you love seafood, this is the spot to get it! Also nice to get away from the touristy area of La Romantica, change it up and try real local seafood, it’s delicious!
